More
than 200 contact centre workers in Glasgow face an anxious wait to
discover if their jobs are safe.
Dozens
of jobs are expected to be shed at Barclays Stockbrokers as part of a
restructuring review carried out at their office in Bath Street,
Glasgow.
Staff
returned to work after Christmas to news they were to attend a series
of briefings.
Staff
were warned about changes but will have to wait until Monday to be
told the outcome of the review and how many jobs will be lost. The
contact centre employs more than 200 people and sources within the
firm say they fear around 60 jobs will go.
Staff,
who will be summoned to meetings on Monday, were told by e-mail:
"Following on from these briefings those of you whose roles may be
directly impacted by the change will be invited to a series of one to
one meetings where your current role will be clarified."
A
spokeswoman for Barclays confirmed an announcement about the future of
the Glasgow office would be made next week. She said: "We are
conducting a review of our direct client contact department in
Glasgow. The rational is to be more flexible and reduce the layers
between customers and staff."
