Nationwide
Building Society has continued its pledge to buck the trend of
outsourcing contact centres overseas by creating 300 jobs in
Yorkshire.
Wakefield is to be the
home of the building society's fifth UK contact centre as part of its
ongoing £300m customer service drive. A spokeswoman for the company
said the West Yorkshire city had been chosen because of its range of
"exciting office locations" and number of residents with experience in
the call centre sector.
The
site, which cannot be identified because of ongoing contractual
negotiations, will join Sheffield as the second Nationwide contact
centre in Yorkshire.
Philip
Williamson, Nationwide's chief executive, said: "Contact with our
customers is a vital part of our service and we firmly believe it is
in their interests to operate our contact centres in the UK. Given
that our research proves that people prefer dealing with UK-based
contact centres, we believe that our strategy is the right one but it
also helps to support the communities in which Nationwide conducts its
business."
Nationwide also has contact centre sites in Swindon, Swansea and
Northampton.
