Busy times  Cotton Traders contact centre

In its 18-year history, leisurewear giant Cotton Traders recorded the most successful Christmas sales.

The figures for the four weeks to December 25 rose 28 percent against same time during the previous year.

With huge growth in all business areas, particularly, mail order zoomed by 47 percent, wholesale went up 44 percent while retail climbed eight percent.

For January trading, the company's call centre reports breaking existing records.

Monday last, saw the call centre handle the highest-ever number of  calls in a day; the highest number of telephone orders processed in a day and the highest hourly count of telephone orders.

Former England rugby international Fran Cotton, managing director of  the firm said: "Obviously Christmas is a key time for us, as any other retailer and we are delighted with our trading figures for the
period.

"We are committed to growth so I am pleased that our increase on the previous year is significant.

"We set some tough targets for this year, but we have achieved many of these already and sales have been incredibly strong. I expect that our financial year will exceed our expectations."

Established in 1987 by Fran Cotton and fellow former England rugby captain Steve Smith, the company now employs 600 staff, and expects to turnover £53m this year.
