IBM - Call centre jobs moved to India

Workers at a Liverpool call centre face losing their jobs after they were told they were being outsourced to India.

IBM workers providing systems support for the insurer Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA), were told the news last week.

They include 48 staff employed by Manpower and a smaller number  employed directly by IBM.

Their jobs will be transferred to Bangalore, after RSA said it was moving jobs to India, where wages are lower, to cut £10m a year. The future of other staff at IBM's base in Norwich House, Water Street, has not yet been revealed.

Staff employed directly by IBM would be found other jobs wherever possible, a spokesman said.

Manpower said it was negotiating to find other jobs within IBM for its staff and would try to find them other employment if they were unsuccessful.
