Arvato
Services - Jobs blow for Liverpool contact centre staff
ARVATO Services, the contact centre business based in Cunard Buildings at the Pier Head in Liverpool, is to make around 175 staff redundant.
The German-owned company told 300 staff at its UK headquarters it was beginning a consultation periodt.
The news represents a major blow to the Merseyside area as the arrival of the firm in the region five years ago was heralded as a major inward investment coup.
Arvato yesterday blamed a downturn in
volumes of work from its traditional customers. The company
provides centre centre services for the likes of Microsoft and
Vodafone taking orders and payment for
goods before arranging despatch.
A spokesman for Arvato said yesterday: "The trading environment for our centre centre in Liverpool has become increasingly tough in recent months.
"We have experienced a significant reduction in business due to the changing requirements of our customer base. As a result we are currently considering proposals to scale back our operations. If these proposals are accepted, this will result in a total of 175 permanent positions being made redundant. We have entered into a consultation period with all affected employees and their representatives."
The Mersey Partnership was instrumental in bringing Arvato to the region.
TMP director of investment, Mark Basnett,
said: "The contact centre industry is a challenging and
ever-changing sector where contracts can regularly come and go.
While this is bad news and we sympathise
with those affected, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that
Arvato has created hundreds of jobs for the region over the last
five years. We work closely with them and will continue to do so
in the future."
