Charles Dunstone's TalkTalk set to create 1,000 new jobs

A mobile phone tycoon hopes to create 1,000 extra jobs at his Preston contact centre.

Carphone Warehouse chief executive Charles Dunstone has predicted he could double the workforce at Tulketh Mill in Blackpool Road, Ashton, which currently employs 800 people and is on course to fulfill its initial target of employing 1,000 staff.

But, with the expansion of its home telephone TalkTalk service and its purchase of the UK's third-biggest Internet provider, AOL UK, there is room to double the number of workers.

Carphone, which has already ploughed "several million pounds" into overhauling the interior of the historic building in Preston, and is now starting work on the building's third floor.

Mr Dunstone said: "We have gone from zero to 800 in less than a year, but you could put 2,000 people in here.

"It is a case of finding the right people, the necessary parking. These issues are what determine our need to keep the quality of environment we want."
