Eon
- Set to close Scottish Contact Centre
E.ON plans to cut 450 jobs in the UK and close a contact centre in Scotland, the German energy group said today.
E.On said the job losses would fall largely in its UK retail division and it hoped to achieve them through voluntary redundancies.
The company said the cuts were part of a larger programme to streamline its retail business, which has been loss-making for two years. The group employs 18,000 people in the UK.
The programme could lead to further job reductions, but E.On was hoping to achieve those by not replacing staff who leave during coming months, it said.
E.On also said that as part of the overall planned reduction, it was planning to end operations at its contact centre in Tannochside, near Glasgow, which employs 40 people.
E.On UK Chief Executive Paul Golby said: "These redundancies are part of an ongoing process that we started last year to ensure we have a sustainable retail business in the UK, especially considering we've now made a loss in retail for two years in a row. "This was clearly a difficult decision to make, and not one we've taken lightly, but we firmly believe it's the right thing to do for the company as a whole."
The company said it did not expect the cuts to affect services to customers. They would be spread across the country, including E.ON's offices in Nottinghamshire and at its Coventry headquarters in central England, it said increase control over call management and improve services.
