Santander confirms closure of Ashford contact centre

Banking giant Santander have confirmed the closure of their Ashford contact centre with the loss 128 jobs.

The Alliance & Leicester contact centre, part of the Santander group, handles calls from their customers primarily regarding current accounts and savings and is set to close in June 2010 with the work being transferred to existing contact centres within the group in Leicestershire and Merseyside.

The affected staff will be offered the opportunity of relocating, voluntary redundancy or redeployment within the Santander Group

A spokesman for Alliance & Leicester said: "All staff will be offered relocation or redeployment to other roles in the region where Santander has approximately 90 vacancies in the South-East. "This decision may lead to a number of redundancies, where staff do not wish to relocate and redeployment is not found, although it is hoped these will be voluntary."
