International outsourcer Sitel have announced that up to 100 jobs are to axed at their Stratford upon Avon contact centre after one of their major clients, British Gas, made the decision to bring the work 'in-house'.
It is thought hat the affected staff are being offered the option the chance to relocate to British Gas's 'Heating' contact centre in Stockport, redundancy, or the possibility of being redeployed within the Sitel group.
Joe Doyle, Sitel’s marketing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, told the Herald: “Although we’ve worked very successfully with British Gas on their New Heating Centre for 11 years, and helped them achieve consistently excellent levels of customer satisfaction, the difficult decision has been made by our client to move this work in-house.
“This is no reflection on the fantastic work the team in Stratford have done. They have achieved one of this industry’s most outstanding records in efficient, friendly and knowledgeable handling of inquiries from the public.”
A Sitel spokesperson commented, “We have started a formal consultation period with impacted staff and we have an excellent track record in helping staff secure alternative employment.
“Should any staff face redundancy as a result of this process, our contractual redundancy obligations will be met. We are phasing the transfer of work to the end of August to ensure a smooth transition and no impact on customer service.”
