BMW's Contact Centre don Red Noses

About 80 people from the BMW call centre, in Bartley Wood Business Park, Hook, will be taking charity pledges from callers on Friday, March 16, which is this year's Red Nose Day.

From 7pm to 12.30am, the call centre employees - who normally are on hand to answer queries from BMW customers - will link up their phone lines to the national telephone number set up to receive donations.

Jeff Lynn, BMW's customer information centre manager, said that Comic Relief had appealed through a business newsletter for help from call centres.

He said: "It sounded like a good idea and everybody was really enthusiastic about it. "People from accounts, IT and HR are all volunteering to man the phones. It should be a really good evening and it's a great opportunity for us all to work together. We are in different departments, usually doing different things,  but it's one night when we are all doing the same thing for a very good reason."

Volunteers will take it in turns to answer calls and they can watch coverage of the evening on a big screen set up in the office. Mr Lynn added: "We will get some food in and the idea is to make it a fun evening and do whatever we can for Red Nose Day."
