E.On set to close Glasgow based contact centre

The German energy group has announced plans to close its contact centre in Tannochside, near Glasgow, putting 40 staff out of work.

The closure comes as part of general cutbacks in E.On’s UK retail division, resulting in a total 450 job losses, which management is hoping to achieve through voluntary redundancy and natural churn.

Speaking to Reuters, E.On chief executive Paul Golby said: “These redundancies are part of an ongoing process that we started last year to ensure we have a sustainable retail business in the UK, especially considering we've now made a loss in retail for two years in a row.

“This was clearly a difficult decision to make, and not one we've taken lightly, but we firmly believe it's the right thing to do for the company as a whole.”
