- Part-time study route to full-time career success at 2Touch
A Pallion man working for a Sunderland-based contact centre is proving that education is definitely the right road to career success.
Twenty-year-old John McDower joined the customer management and marketing services company 2Touch, based on the Doxford Technology Park, as a part-time supervisor after his GCSEs in June 2002.
The company encouraged him to further his education by allowing him to fit in his studies at City of Sunderland College around his work shifts.
This enabled him to study for A Levels in IT, Business Studies and PE in the mornings while working in the late afternoons and evenings in the production area.
Now, John has finished his further education courses and is stepping up to take on the challenge of a full-time job as a fulfilment supervisor.
“Working for 2Touch is a great way for me to improve my work/life skills, make new friends and further my education. I wanted to work full-time after my GCSEs but it was the company that convinced me to do my A Levels. I’m glad they did!”
John has since added to his skills by becoming qualified in both first aid, health and safety.
He’s also a fully trained fire warden and is currently studying for a Level I NVQ Introduction to Management certificate.
Ken Crosby, 2Touch’s people development manager, said: “John is a great example of the type of responsible, ambitious people whose skills, education and training can be of benefit to themselves and their employers. He is a self-motivated, enthusiastic and engaging individual capable of managing situations or concerns at work. “I’m sure he will continue to be a valuable asset to the team in the future.”
