William Hill Bookmakers - considering offshore for their contact centres?

It has been reported that leading Bookmakers William Hill are considering offshoring their UK based contact centres following the publishing of their first half year profits.

William Hill Chief Executive Ralph Topping confirmed that their contact centres in Sheffield and Leeds, which employ up to 700 staff at peak times, could be closed and offshore to either Ireland or even the Far East where their are lucrative tax incentives.

Mr. Topping commented, "William Hill have seen their telephone business decimated over the past six or seven years. I don't want to be the chief executive of William Hill who shuts down a contact centre but my job is not helped by competition from abroad. The choice is whether to run it down or try to enliven it by finding a location overseas."
