Teleperformance's Irish contact centre opened

The impact of a new £6.5m call centre in Newry on the local economy will be extremely positive, Economy Minister Nigel Dodds believes. Mr Dodds officially opened Teleperformance's new 23,000 square feet call centre in the city's Quays Complex on Thursday.

The centre is the result of a £6.5million Invest Northern Irelandbacked project that will help Teleperformance one of the world's leading providers of call centre and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions to handle a major increase in new business.

Teleperformance's new Newry facility which is expected to create around 450 new jobs by 2010 will almost double the company's current capacity by adding to the already established 700-seat call centre in Bangor.

"The contact centre sector in Northern Ireland has grown rapidly over the past few years, with many international companies recognising how our talented local people and this cost competitive European location can add value to a global business," said Mr Dodds.

"With this new facility, Teleperformance will build upon its existing presence in Northern Ireland, and ensure that it continues to grow the business whilst providing a quality service to its current and future clients.

"The resulting impact on the local economy will be extremely positive." The new 450-seat contact centre to which companies can outsource their customer services also provides outsourced customer relationship management and contact services.

Jeff Smith, chairman and CEO of Teleperformance, said the new site would deal with a number of undisclosed contract wins, adding: "We really are delighted with the significant growth we have been able to make in Northern Ireland and fully appreciate the support from Invest NI which has enabled us to bring our new Newry facility to fruition.

"With a rapidly increasing client bank across the UK and Europe, I am confident that Northern Ireland will continue to offer us the calibre of skilled contact centre staff for which Teleperformance has become renowned."
