Threat of closure at Swansea contact centre

A Swansea based contact centre is under the threat of closure with the Bank entering a 3-day consultation period with the centre's 20 staff.

The contact centre, which processes calls from Welsh speaking customers, will be transferred to the Bank's centralised customer service operations to Sheffield

A spokeswoman said: "A process of 30 days' consultation began on September 8. "While no decision has been made on the future of our call centre in Swansea, this is not something we take lightly — it is not an easy decision to make."

The spokeswoman added the building society was currently undergoing a "streamlining process" and looking at areas at areas which were "less cost- effective to run. In the event that the contact centre was to close, every effort would be made to redeploy staff within Nationwide."
